Ideology #1: Pro Life

The diagram at the left shows the four possible outcomes of a healthy pregnancy, depending on two variables, what the woman did (abortion or gestation) and whether she chose to do it (elective or forced). Only one of the four outcomes is good, and that is elective gestation (a female choosing to gestate). The greatest of the three evils is forced abortion (making a female get an abortion against her will), and that has always been illegal. The other two evils are forced gestation (making a female gestate against her will) and elective abortion (a female choosing to get an abortion).

Even though the world is divided into two groups called "pro-choice" and "pro-life", it is not divided over which of two good things that people support, life or choice. Rather, the world is divided over which of two evils that people oppose, forced gestation or elective abortion. These two evils are mutually exclusive, meaning that people can only oppose one or the other. They cannot oppose both. The evil which "pro-life" people oppose is the evil of elective abortion. Sometimes "pro-life" people are called "pro forced birth" by their political foes. However, just because they do not oppose forced gestation, that does not mean they support it.
